And the Winner Is…

April 21, 2010

– So I’ve been making you wait,

and wait…
and wait.

But the time has finally come to announce the winner of Up’North’s first contest. After more than 30 great submissions from all corners of the country, and all ends of the world, I narrowed the lot down to 5 finalists. Those finalists will all get a featured post in the coming weeks, and should be congratulated for being chosen above so many great candidates. In each and every essay, picture, or poem I found levels of passion that parallel and occasionally exceeded my own. I started Up’North to share my passion with others, and I am extremely excited that it’s a two way street.

We should all be reminded that fly fishing is about much more than simply throwing a line. While we all have our own reasons for venturing out on the water, the moments we share and the feelings we foster are one in the same.

So without further ado, after more than a month of reading, pondering, and reading more, one is left standing with a lovely pile of free goodies. And that one left standing is none other than the fly fishin’ phenom of the future, Mr. Thomas Morin. In a nearly unanimous decision my expert panel of judges has spoken, and I couldn’t agree with their choice more!

The future of fly fishing is in great hands! along with a new LLBean fly rod!

A huge thank you goes out to everyone who sent me submissions, helped me judge, or donated prizes to the winner. The contest would not have been such a huge success without your generosity and support!

I’ll post the winning submission from the man himself tomorrow. Until then, show the kid some love!

Tight Lines,

-Ben

Well done young man, here’s to seeing you out there and don’t forget, take somebody who’s never been before. Nothing better than to pay it foward!

Great job Thomas! You wrote an inspiring entry, the sport is lucky to have young guns like yourself to carry on the tradition.
